Timing Chain Rattle

A common problem with a lot of modern timing chain driven engines is a rattle for 3 – 5 seconds when starting. The rattle is caused by the chain jumping around on the gears which is caused by a number of different reasons. Your engine could have a failed tensioner, worn guides, worn gears, stretched chain or low oil pressure. It more than likely will need a chain, tensioner and guides but the one thing nobody replaces is the oil pick up. If the oil pick up is blocked like in the photos then none of the new parts will work correctly. We always remove the sump, replace the oil pick up, replace the timing parts and your engine will be rattle free for years to come
